It’s all about the children
I’ve been searching for years for an organization that I could help as a volunteer. I wanted to focus on helping children.
When I was invited to a Pajama Program Awards luncheon this May at the Pierre Hotel in NYC, I did not know what to expect and wasn’t prepared for the powerful impact it would have on me. What an amazing organization The Pajama Program is! I immediately knew this was the organization I was searching for. I am deeply grateful for this unique opportunity to serve my community. Janet Estevez and I share the same love and inspiration from children. As an elementary school teacher for thirty years and now retired, I knew that I wanted to continue my involvement with children. I first heard about the Pajama Program from the Oprah Show when Genevieve Piturro (founder and executive director of the Pajama Program) was a guest. As I listened to her story I was amazed and fascinated by her love and devotion to children in need. I began to inquire about the program and to my surprise, I have been able to collect and distribute many books and pajamas to many children in my area. However, I feel that the rewards I have received have far exceeded what I have done. As the saying goes, “One person can make a difference.” You can, too. [/wpcol_2third_end]
