Broward County, FL Chapter
Chapter President, Amy Battaglia
I am a wife and a work-at-home mom of two beautiful girls, Piper and Harlowe. I have taught 8th grade math and science online for Florida Virtual School during the last 6 years and prior to that taught drop-out prevention at a local Title 1 middle school. My entire adult life has been spent working with, teaching and caring for children. This past year I decided that it was time to start teaching my own children to give back to our community and to those in need. We had a Pajama Party for Piper’s 4th birthday and requested pajama and book donations in lieu of gifts. That day we collected 55 sets of pajamas and 70 books. On my 35th birthday the following month, we took them to a local organization, and so our journey began.
It is important to me to set a good example of compassion, generosity and community service for my children. I am so excited and honored to be the President of the South Florida Chapter of the Pajama Program and to be able to share this experience with my daughters. The highlight of the day in our house is bedtime - cuddling in our pajamas and reading books each night. Reading is an important part of our day and I believe that literacy is one of the most important gifts you can give a child. While I am blessed to be able to provide my children with the basic necessities in life, there are so many children in my own community that do not have the comforts of warm pajamas and a bedtime story. I look forward to working with my community to provide the warmth of a pair of pajamas, to help cultivate a love of reading, and to ensure sweeter dreams for children in need.
