Upper Peninsula, MI
Chapter President, Paulette Pepin
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, and after short stops in California and Wisconsin, Paulette Pepin landed in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Her family moved to Escanaba when she was 8, and she has been here ever since. She attended Bay de Noc Community College, and Northern Michigan University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and later a Master's Degree in Special Education with a focus on Learning Disabilities.
Teaching has always been her passion, and she was lucky enough to be hired in neighboring Gladstone, where she has been teaching for 17 years. "My love of reading and wish to share it with all of my students led me to Pajama Program. When Scholastic got on board, and shared this amazing program through their book club website, I knew immediately that this was something I wanted to be part of." Each year since, her class has opted to forgo a gift exchange and instead participate in Pajama Program. They share the gift of pajamas at Christmas and have a pajama party to celebrate! Their generosity has inspired Paulette to want to do more. After seeing the need for a local chapter here in the UP, "I sent out some emails and here I am! I am thrilled to be starting up a new local chapter. I look forward to helping spread Pajama Program across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and sharing the gift of pajamas and reading to children in need in our local communities.
