Chapter President, Mary Williston
My name is Mary Williston, and I am the Chapter President for Western Ohio. My husband and I have seven grown children between us and nine grandchildren. We live on twenty-one wooded acres near Bellefontaine, OH. For most of my adult life I have been involved in the lives of children. While I was raising my own children, I was also teaching in an Early Childhood Center. As a volunteer, I have facilitated the children's program in a domestic violence shelter and an out-patient program for children whose parents were in alcohol treatment. As an art therapist, I also worked in a treatment facility for emotionally challenged pre-schoolers. I have seen first-hand how important it is for children to feel nurtured and cared for. In the past few years, I have been involved with other volunteer projects, but I began to have very strong promptings that I needed to get back to my focus on helping children. When I heard about Pajama Program, I was struck by a deep intuition that this was the right opportunity for me. I believe that it is an excellent way for families to teach the joy of giving in a way that is relevant to the lives of their children. I also know how important reading to children is to their intellectual development. So, I am honored to be part of bringing pajamas and books to children who need them, and committed to serving on their behalf.
