Volunteer Spotlight: Lauren McDowell, ATL

In honor of Volunteer Appreciation Week, we are spotlighting some of our most dedicated volunteers. Watch our blog and social media pages this week to meet just a few of the hundreds of volunteers who selflessly give their time to our mission each year.

How long have you been volunteering with Pajama Program?

I started volunteering in October of 2022, so about six months now.

What is your favorite part about volunteering?

I love how we make every child feel special. Whether that is going up to the board to help with the R.E.A.D.Y. Bedtime Routine and us all clapping afterwards, or the one-on-one connections we make with the scholars during Storytime, each child leaves feeling like they are important. Their big smiles and hugs afterwards always make my day.

“I always leave the center feeling happier than when I went in because the scholars really light up my day. I try to go as many times as I can per week, because there is truly no better way to start to my day.”

Why do you volunteer with Pajama Program?

I started volunteering to get extra practice reading out loud and being expressive. I’m an on-camera and voice actor in Atlanta, and my voiceover teacher recommended reading children’s books out loud to practice. I found Pajama Program via social media and it was the perfect fit! I get to practice my acting and storytelling skills while making a difference in the lives of children in my community. I always leave the center feeling happier than when I went in because the scholars really light up my day. I try to go as many times as I can per week, because there is truly no better way to start to my day.

Help us support good nights for good days for all children, everywhere.
