Long Island, NY Chapter
Chapter President, Petti Cellura
My mom always said, "What goes around, comes around." That sums up my career of 38 years working with children in both New York City and Long Island schools as a teacher and then as a principal. My love of books and reading to children brought me to the Pajama Program. I've been fortunate in my life and in my career to meet the most wonderful kids who love snuggling in at night for a good read. Now it is my turn to give back to my Long Island community by helping children in need get the same comforts my own son and my students received regularly. As a retired educator, I now have the time to devote to the things I love doing. I've come full circle--as the granddaughter of immigrants I was given many opportunities to succeed--both from a loving home and an accepting community. It is my turn to offer the nurturing experience of a comfy pair of pajamas and a good book to the next generation of children, so they too may grow up and achieve the American Dream.

Pajama Program volunteers model reading aloud to parents at the Parent Resource Center in Port Washington. Children received new pajamas and new books to bring home. It was a wonderful night for the families, made possible by a grant from Connections Plus, a Tietz Family Foundation.
Thank you to our youngest donors "Hampton Kids" for their PJ donation to children in need on Long Island.
Kids Helping Kids
After a month long drive, Pre-K students at M.A.T.S.S Kids Gym & Early Childhood Education Center in Syosset and Bellmore donated 150 pairs of new pajamas to children in need on Long Island.
