Bay Area Chapter

Pallie Zambrano, Bay Area Chapter President, works full time as an attorney and has lived in California for 20 years. She lives in Silicon Valley where many people are trying to balance their busy careers and even busier families. She encourages Northern Californians to join Pajama Program in whatever way they can, whether it’s a talent, an idea, a connection, or a donation.

Central Valley Chapter

Zenia Zuñiga, Central Valley Chapter President, is a mother of four living in Ceres. Zenia’s life was not easy as a child, for her or her siblings. Her father abused drugs and alcohol, and there was a lot of domestic violence between her parents. Her mother struggled with breast cancer for years. She had to grow up pretty fast and be a caregiver for her siblings.

Zenia and her family grew up homeless and struggled to make it through each day. It was difficult to make it to soup kitchens on time to receive their meal of the day and to a shelter at night to keep warm. Man days they would go behind grocery stores and eat food that was thrown away. Many times they didn’t make it to the shelters on time, or they would be full, so they slept in their run down van with the clothes they were wearing. Through the middle of all this, her mother still read to them. They didn’t have many books but only a few. When her mother read to her, personally that alone, it made her feel loved. That gave her a happy place just for a moment, like everything was perfect in her life. “I can remember her warmth as she cradled me into her arms. I can hear her breathing as she read to me.”

On June 1, 1987, her mother passed away. Zenia and her siblings were all placed in the foster care system after being abandoned by their father in a hotel room. They weren’t placed with a family right away, and were shuffled around foster homes. Their only belongings would get lost or thrown away. Often, they would arrive to a foster home with nothing except what they were wearing.

Today, it is Zenia’s mission to help every child feel secure in their environment by sleeping warm and loved at night, building lasting memories by simply being read to. She knows that the struggles she experienced as a child were for a purpose. Though some left an imprint in her daily life, they made her the person she is today. She knows personally that even a big warm hug can make a huge difference in the life of a child.

Orange County Chapter

Terry Miranda, Orange County Chapter President, is from Frankfurt, Germany and now lives in California with her husband and son. Her son was born 13 weeks premature and has ever since been considered a miracle baby. After being surrounded by people who constantly supported her family through a very tough time, she decided they needed to somehow give back. Terry heard about Pajama Program on the radio and decided to ask guests to bring pajamas instead of toys to her son’s second birthday party. When looking for local organizations to drop off the donations, she found there was no Orange County Chapter and she took over as Chapter President.

Riverside County Chapter

Jale’ Beliveau, Riverside County Chapter President, is a Southern California native where she lives with her husband Matthew and daughter Mattison. She was a professional softball player in Italy before becoming a middle school physical education teacher. After having her daughter, she resigned as a teacher to open her own softball pitching academy. Her daughter drives Jale’ and her husband to be better people every day, which is what encouraged her to become a Pajama Program Chapter President.
