Volunteer Spotlight: Debbie Sklar, NYC

In honor of Volunteer Appreciation Week, we are spotlighting some of our most dedicated volunteers. Watch our blog and social media pages this week to meet just a few of the hundreds of volunteers who selflessly give their time to our mission each year.

Pajama Program Volunteer

How long have you been volunteering with Pajama Program?

I started a year and a half before COVID. I heard about it at a gym, and I lived nearby so I went and filled out the application. It’s an excellent program. It’s not always just for the kids. As an adult and as a volunteer, you feel important. You learn as you watch Carrie. This kind of program could be in every state if it was possible.

What is your favorite part about volunteering?

I really enjoy observing how the children respond as Carrie’s delivering the lesson, the individual personalities. Never underestimate a quiet child—they’re observing all of this.

“As a volunteer, you feel important.”

Why do you volunteer with Pajama Program?

When I heard about it, right away I thought, “Oh, I could touch base with the kids again.” Everything is well thought out and well prepared, very professional.

Help us support good nights for good days for all children, everywhere.
