In a giant leap toward creating equal access to restful nights for all children, Pajama Program proudly announces a significant milestone in its mission. With a vast network of 4,000+ community-based partners and corporate collaborators, including longstanding corporate partners like Carter’s and Scholastic, Pajama Program has successfully delivered its 8 millionth set of new pajamas to children in shelters, community centers, and classrooms throughout the country.
The significance of sleep, a fundamental need for healthy development, particularly for children, cannot be overstated. Shocking statistics reveal that one-third of children in the United States fall short of the recommended 9-13 hours of sleep per day. External circumstances, including low family income, housing insecurity, and family instability, often disrupt children’s bedtime routines, robbing them of the comfort crucial for a restful night’s sleep.
For over two decades, Pajama Program has stood committed to leveling the playing field for children. The focus lies in ensuring equal access to a Good Night for Good Days. We place a strong emphasis on nurturing the critical bond between a child and their caregiver, cultivating a sense of comfort, safety, and trust at bedtime—a cornerstone for a child’s development.
Executive Director Jamie Dyce shares, “Our work extends beyond children to the influential adults in a child’s life, such as parents, educators, and caregivers. We aim to create lasting changes in bedtime routines, creating an environment of peace and security that enhances overall well-being for generations to come.”
Approaching Sleep Awareness Month in March, the milestone of 8 million pajamas donated serves as a strong reminder of the profound impact Pajama Program has had on countless children’s lives. We go beyond material donations, providing essential tools for creating better bedtimes directly to children, including new pajamas, books, and teddy bears. These items assist children in recognizing bedtime cues and preparing for a good night’s sleep.
Additionally, Pajama Program offers training and workshops for adults, equipping them with knowledge and strategies to promote healthy sleep routines for the children they care for. By working with both children and caregivers, Pajama Program builds connections that become the bedrock of a consistent bedtime routine, instilling lifelong habits and making a lasting impact across generations.
As we celebrate 8 million pajamas donated, we also acknowledge that the work is far from complete. We remain steadfast in our work to ensure that every child, regardless of circumstances, experiences the warmth and comfort of a loving bedtime. While celebrating this milestone, we look ahead to supporting countless more children in the future. Together with dedicated partners and supporters, Pajama Program will continue to make a difference in the lives of children in need, creating Good Nights for Good Days.
Help us support good nights for good days for all children, everywhere.
